Why Imereti Wine is Unique?

The Kutaisi region (Imereti) produces wines with unique characteristics, connected to both local grape varieties and the traditional Georgian Qvevri method. This ancient winemaking tradition, dating back 8,000 years, creates wines with exceptional character and depth.

  • Traditional Qvevri Method: Ancient clay vessels buried underground for fermentation and aging, creating unique wine character.
  • Tsolikouri: The most popular white grape variety in Imereti, producing fresh and aromatic white wines.
  • Ojaleshi: A red Georgian grape variety that often produces aromatic wines with a berry profile and lively acidity, typically with soft velvety tannins, often in a naturally semi-sweet style.
  • Amber Wines: White wines with extended skin contact acquire rich amber color and complex flavors.
  • Family Wineries: Small family-run operations offering authentic Georgian hospitality and traditional winemaking.
  • Additional Spirits: Chacha (grape vodka) and brandy.
